Cythère concerto for 4 percussions and Orchestra

Concerto for 4 percussions and orchestra Mozart formation written by Guillaume Connesson for Quatuor Beat.

Solicited by Quatuor Beat ever more eager to expand the repertoire, Guillaume Connesson got caught up in the game and wrote specially for them “Cythère”, the first concerto for 4 percussions and orchestra in history.

Inspired by the famous painting “Pilgrimage to the Island of Cythera” by Watteau, the piece takes us through several dances where the Percussion Quartet surrounded by the orchestra mixes the melodious sounds of the Marimbas and Vibraphones with the frenzied rhythms of the snare drums, bass drum and other toms.

“Cythère” was created on October 25, 2014 in the Nouveau Siècle in Lille by the Beat Quartet accompanied by the Lille National Orchestra under the direction of Alexandre Bloch.

Since then, Quatuor Beat has been invited to play this work with the National orchestras of Bordeaux, Montpellier but also the Chamber Orchestra of the new Aquitaine and the Tonhalle of Dusseldorf.

Guillaume Connesson received the Victoire de la Musique for this work in the Composer category.
